Did it cross your mind that when you're travelling to another place, you need to communicate with the locals? Did it also cross your mind that the residents may not be able to understand English? Travelling to another country would mean that you will have to learn their language. Worry not for here are five ways on how to learn a language quick and easy.

Social media

With the advent of social media websites and their popularity, communicating with people that live in other countries is made easier plus it's a good venue to make friends. You can make friends with people who are willing to give you more than a language exchange. This may also be a venue to exchange cultures and other useful local knowledge about cities you intend to visit in the future.

Language apps and websites

If you plan to carry a smartphone, laptop or any similar gadget in one of your travels, then this is an opportunity for you to learn other country's language on your own. By installing a language app like uTalk, watching videos on how to speak a language, or subscribing to online language courses (believe it or not, some are being offered for free) there are plenty of resources that you can exploit.

Foreign entertainment

Another entertaining way to learn a language is to watch foreign movies with English subtitles or listen to their music. This not only helps you to pick up on common words and phrases, but it also exposes you to a certain country's culture. Animated films called Anime from Japan, pop songs from Korea, or even British movies (where you learn proper pronunciations) are some of popular entertaining media that you can learn language from.

Language programs and events

There is a chance that the country you're about to visit encourages tourists to learn their language one way or another. Some countries have programs and events that is geared towards this aim. Intercambio in Spain, Language Cafes in Sweden, and Monk Chat in Thailand are some examples of these language events.

Abandon English or your native language

This might sound crazy but the best way to learn a language is to speak it! This means you will have to fully abandon your original language (and English) temporarily. This allows you to make an effort to communicate with the locals in their tongues. Not only will this be challenging but it will certainly be enjoyable.
