A 62-year-old hunter who went after a camel in the Great Victoria Desert in Western Australia state faced the harsh weather conditions without water to drink and proper food to eat.

Reginald Foggerdy survived a total of six days by eating black ants for straight two days. According to members of Specialist Tactical Response Group, who spearheaded the search, 'He just spent the last two days under a tree eating black ants and that sustained him. When we found him, he was extremely dehydrated, disoriented and basically delusional'.

It was last week Wednesday when Reginald decided to go on the trip with his brother. Unfortunately, he left the campsite and went on his own and went after a camel. The families got alarmed when Reginald was not able to show up the following day. This prompted the family to report him missing. Land and air search were conducted.

Police Superintendent Andy Greatwood said "[h]e had fantastic survival skills. Obviously it will emerge how [he] did that and how he achieved that, but it's fair to say it's been extremely hot, extremely remote and most people would not have survived so he's done a fantastic job.'

Last week, the local Indigenous trackers used Reginald's footstep tracks in order to find him, but it was not an easy feat as the hunter was only wearing thongs making it hard for them to follow the lead. Last Monday, however, the police found what seemed to be Reginald's thongs. More distinct footprints for them to follow where also found.

According to reports released by Metro, 'Foggerdy was airlifted by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to the Kalgoorlie Hospital. He was admitted in stable condition'.

Meanwhile, his sister, Christine Ogden, told 720 ABC Perth, 'He's not very well obviously, he needs a lot of medical intervention, but it's the best outcome we've had. My concern was up and down; I'd feel like they'd find him one day and then they wouldn't find him the next. But I went to bed last night and said to myself they're going to find him today, and they did. His son is overwhelmed, he doesn't know how to respond. It's amazing'.
