Val Kilmer dead? Say it isn't so. The 55-year-old actor is very much alive but the sad part is that he is suffering from throat cancer. As a matter of fact, he was rushed to the hospital this week.

TMZ was first to break the news this week that Kilmer got hospitalized after his throat started bleeding. The "Top Gun" actor was immediately rushed to UCLA Medical Centre, Santa Monica after paramedics arrived to his Malibu home Monday night when someone had called 911 saying that he was bleeding.

Doctors right away performed surgery on the actor and he is currently on the way to recovery.

Val Kilmer's family said they are pretty upset that the "Batman Forever" star ignored his health problem and allowed it to get out of hand.

The news about the actor is pretty contrary to what Media Mass published this week saying Val Kilmer has died.

The notorious hoax site even claimed that an "R.I.P. Val Kilmer" Facebook page got nearly one million likes from fans on Thursday and that the About page for the alleged account read:

"At about 11 a.m. ET on Thursday (January 29, 2015), our beloved actor Val Kilmer passed away. Val Kilmer was born on December 31, 1959 in Los Angeles. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."

While it is not surprising that Hollywood actors become subject to celebrity death hoaxes, Val Kilmer's case is a tad different. For one thing, XOJane also published a "memorial tribute" to the 55-year-old actor.

However, instead of  sensationalising the death hoax, the site quipped that Kilmer "is not dead... just underappreciated."

News about Kilmer came a couple of weeks after he was reportedly spotted with his son Jack early this month attending a Los Angeles Clippers game.

Gossip Cop even maintained that while Kilmer isn't really under the Hollywood spotlight, he has managed to land jobs every now and then. In 2013, he even provided voice work for the 2013 animated film "Planes."
