Gypsy Hill Murders - The gruesome murder that took place 40 years ago in California's Gypsy Hills remains to be unsolved. That is until today. Investigators have finally captured the suspect responsible for the murders all thanks to DNA evidence.

Rodney Halbower, aged 66, has been linked to the Gypsy Hill murders of the year 1976. Halbower has been charged of rape and murder for Veronica Anne Cascio, aged 18, and Paula Baxter, aged 17. Cascio and Baxter were two out of six deaths that occurred from Jan. to April of 1976.

Five of the bodies involved in the Gypsy Hill murders were found in the suburbs of San Francisco. The sixth body on the other hand was found in Reno. So what led investigators to Halbower exactly? Families of the victims have DNA technology to thank. Chief Deputy District Attorney of San Mate, Karen Guidotti, claims Halbower's DNA was found in both Cascio and Baxter.

"Based on the forensic links between a number of the cases, the time frame of the murders, and the methods used by the offender to commit these crimes, investigators are confident all the crimes were committed by the same offender," says a statement by the FBI released in March after the task force involved in the Gypsy Hill murders decided to revisit the case with the use of DNA technology.

As for Halbower, the man arrested for the Gypsy Hill murders, he has claimed innocence over the charges. Halbower states that he has no knowledge of the murders and is reportedly "confused." Despite his claims, Halbower's history of having escaped from a Nevada prison in the year 1986 and committing a string of crimes thereafter in Oregon plus a rape case in 1975, has him locked down for the murders in California.

Families of the victims involved in the Gypsy Hill murders can finally rest easy knowing that the suspect is behind bars.
