Peaceful protests regarding the grand jury's decision continued around the country. However, on the contrary, the authorities said that the protest in California turned violent. It sparked when a group started to smash windows and throw objects at the police.

A Berkley police officer was brought to the hospital for treatment of a dislocated shoulder after he was hit with a sandbag. Another officer is suffering from minor injuries according to the police spokeswoman, Jenn Coats.

Looting was also present during the march. She said that many businesses were affected and damaged as this said group broke off from the initially and supposedly peaceful demonstration in Saturday night. On the other side of the story, the police officers used smoke and tear gas in attempts of dispersing the crowds, which led to protesters throwing rocks, brick, bottles, and other objects at the police. Establishments and some squad cars were damaged.

By the time of the unrest in Sunday morning, it was reported that at least six people were arrested.

Some group of protesters also broke windows, smashed bottles, and spray painted graffiti on establishments. Others took hammers and smashed ATMs, and even the garbage dumpsters were overturned as the police tried to disperse the protesters. When the violence broke out, the non-violent protesters retreated and splintered away from the scene.

Demonstrations were all over New York as people protested against the grand jury's decision not to indict the white police officer who was responsible for Eric Garner's death. This was then followed by Missouri grand jury's refusal to indict the white officer who shot Michael Brown. These demonstrations have been held in Philadelphia, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas and a number of cities in United States.
