Prison break Nigeria - Hundreds of inmates in the Nigeria prison managed to escape after an overnight raid by dozens of gunmen. The said incident is now being linked to the Islamist sect of Boko Haram after they had been involved in prison raids in the past. Now, the safety of residents of Nigeria are once again at risk.

The prison break in Nigeria happened on a Saturday. It occurred near the capital Abuja of Niger state. The said prison break is linked to al-Qaeda and Boko Haram as these two Islamist sects have been involved in past jailbreaks. However, investigations regarding the prison break Nigeria related to Boko Haram continue.

"It's unclear if this is Boko Haram or some criminal gangs," says one of the security sources in a report by NBC News. "I doubt there were many high profile Boko Haram suspects being held in Minna."

This prison break in Nigeria isn't the first as it was only last month when in central Kogi another prison had been broken into. 144 inmates were freed in the city of Lokoja when gunmen had utilized explosives to enter and exit the prison. Last week as well more than 300 prisoners escaped with the help of gunmen in the prison southwest of Ikiti.

The prison break Nigeria not only links to Boko Haram but rights organizations complaining about the country's prison situation. Not only were the prisons overcrowded but prisoners have had acts of physical violence against them.

As for Boko Haram being linked to the prison break Nigeria, the group has long been spreading fear and insecurity amongst residents of central and north Nigeria. Apart from the prison breaks, the group has been setting up bombs, attacking a number of towns, and murdering thousands of people. Around 10,340 deaths from Nov. 2013 to 2014 have been linked to Boko Haram.
