The female passenger has yet to be identified. She had reportedly used the taxi-booking service after returning from an engagement dinner Friday night.

Reports state that the woman, 26-years in age, had fallen asleep and had awoken to see that the taxi was in a secluded area. The driver had then threatened, beaten, and raped her. After the incident, Yadav fled to his home in Uttar Pradesh, abandoning his taxi cab. Yet, cops arrest Uber driver after the victim reported the incident.

In addition to the cops arresting Uber driver Yadav, Indian authorities will also take legal action against the taxi-booking service. The US online cab service had failed to run a background check on Yadav, which could have prevented the said incident. As for the US online service, they have released a statement regarding the case of rape involving one of their taxi drivers.

"We are working with the police as they investigate, and will assist them in any way we can to determine what happened," reads the statement.

Apart from cops arrest Uber driver, the US online cab service have also suspended Yadav's account. Following the reports of the Uber driver raping his passenger, dozens of protesters flocked to the police headquarters in New Delhi to remonstrate the increasing cases of rape in the city.
