Four polio workers were gunned down in Quetta. Three others have sustained severe injuries. According to reports, the polio workers were attacked by two men riding a motorbike.

"Two men on a motorcycle intercepted the van and shot the occupants using a handgun," states a police officer at the scene.

"There was going to be security with this team before they went in and started their work. However, no one could have thought that this team would be intercepted," says Ayesha Raza Farooq, the national coordinator of Polio Eradication in Pakistan in a report by BBC.

Due to the latest case of polio vaccination workers killed in Pakistan, efforts of anti-polio in the province of Quetta have been suspended momentarily. What is the reason for such violence?
