Yemen frees hostages - Seven Yemenis and one US military expert were included in the hostages by a group said to be linked to the al-Qaeda. Thankfully, in a raid put up by the Yemeni Special Forces, the eight hostages were freed. Those who had taken them hostage however did not experience the same fate of freedom.

The seven men said to have kidnapped one foreigner and seven Yemenis were killed during the operation that had occurred overnight. Yemen frees hostages after the raid that occurred in southern Yemen's province, Lahij. This is not the first time a hostage crisis has occurred in the country.

Before the incident of Yemen freed hostages, a number of hostage taking incidents were recorded back in the years. The motives of such kidnapping led by the groups linked to al-Qaeda were mainly for ransom. Recently, the hostage taking crisis has now been linked to insurgency by Islamist militants.

Regarding the news on Yemen frees hostages, a source to the Yemeni government claimed that the foreigner who had been kidnaped used to work at the al-Anad air base. The American citizen was said to be a military instructor in the province of Lahij according to reports by BBC.

While the raid that led to Yemen freeing hostages was said to have occurred close to the base, there have been no updates as to where the eight victims were originally abducted. The US embassy based in the capital of Sanaa has yet to comment on the reports involving Yemen freeing hostages.
