Rocket explodes over Virginia - The Antares rocket contained food supplies and a number of science projects made by students at the Hobby Middle School in San Antonio, Texas. These were set out to the International Space Station but never made it. The rocket exploded over Virginia a few seconds after take-off.

The Orbital Sciences Corp Antares rocket was bound for the International Space Station Tuesday. It had contained 5,000 pounds of cargo meant for astronauts on the station. Yet, these cargo never made it in time as the rocket exploded over Virginia a few seconds after take-off.

No casualties or injuries have been reported though the extent of the damage of the rocket exploding over Virginia has yet to be noted. What exactly caused the explosion?

"We don't really have any early indications of exactly what might have failed," stated Frank Culbertson, the Orbital Sciences executive vice president in a report by Discovery.

"What we know so far is pretty much what everybody saw on the video: The ascent stopped, there was some disassembly of the first stage ... and then it fell to Earth. We don't have access to all the data yet," added Culbertson.

The rocket that exploded over Virginia measures at 139 feet in height. The Antares rocket had originally been scheduled for take-off Monday but due to a sailboat that got into the restricted zone, the flight was delayed for a day.

The Antares rocket exploded over Virginia is the first of four rockets to have had an unsuccessful flight. Other than supplies included in the rocket, a number of projects made by kids from Texas were also in the cargo.

[We're feeling] shock and horror -- a little more horror just because of the explosion on live camera," stated Tony Holmes of Hobby Middle School in San Antonio, Texas, in a report by KSAT, adding, "It's a bummer for us because we're going to have to take a lot more time to fix everything. But no one got hurt, so that's great."
