Iranian woman accused executed - Reyhaneh Jabbari, the 26-year old woman accused of murdering Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, had been hanged Saturday. Despite pleas from international campaigns, Jabbari's life was left un-spared. Complicating the murder charges was an accusation by Jabbari that Sarbandi had tried to rape her and that her actions were meant for self-defence.

In spite of international pleas to spare the life of Jabbari, the Iranian woman accused executed had been hanged for the murder of Sarbandi. Jabbari failed to secure a pardon from the family of Sarbandi within the deadline set of 10 days. The 10-day deadline had been set in 1979 during the Islamic Revolution.

Jabbari had been convicted guilty of the murder of Sarbandi, which took place in the year 2007. Sarbandi had been stabbed to death by Jabbari, who claims her actions came as self-defence because the former had planned to rape her. However, the Iranian woman accused executed accusation of rape were found to be false given a text message sent to a friend proved she had planned the murder of Sarbandi.

"Jabbari had repeatedly confessed to premeditated murder, then tried to divert the case from its course by inventing the rape charge," said a statement from the prosecutor's office of Tehran.

"But all her efforts to feign innocence were proven false in various phases of prosecution. Evidence was firm. She had informed a friend through text message of her intention to kill. It was ascertained that she had purchased the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, two days before committing murder," added the statement.

Regarding the Iranian woman accused executed, a number of international unions have condemned the actions of the Iran government. The US and European Union are amongst a few international bodies condemning the actions of the country.
