Executions of five men responsible for a gang rape have been implemented on Wednesday in the town of Paghman, outside Kabul, Afghanistan.

Despite of the UN and other human rights group condemning the said act of giving verdict to the criminals, authorities still continue with the process. Five men who are held responsible for sexually assaulting four women in the city have been hanged with another criminal from a not-related crime. The death warrant, which was already signed by the country's former president, Hamid Karzai is originally expected by the other human rights group to be halted, but no new words have been heard from the country's new leader, Ashraf Ghani.

With President Ghani not even say a word regarding the recent executions of five men over gang rape in Paghman, many actually condemned the hangings while also trying to question his ability to play a role in the issue. According to a report from The Guardian Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin, the EU ambassador in Kabul expressed his thoughts about the issue through his tweets.

"Today's executions cast a dark shadow over the new Afghan government's will to uphold basic human rights, " he tweeted about the killings in Afghanistan.

It can be recalled that the five men have been subjected for executions after committing a gang rape in the said town. In August, the armed group wearing police uniforms reportedly stopped a group of cars en route to Kabul, Afghanistan. The men then tied the group of men while started to harass four women.

It is actually not just the act of executions of the five men that many organizations, particularly the human rights advocates that they are condemning, but also Afghanistan's speedy process in reaching for the verdict. Although the decision has been made by the country's former leader, many are still expecting to hear a word from President Ghani regarding his thoughts about the gang rape suspects being actually hanged. With Ghani's silence, many condemn the act of killing while there are those who believe that it is a result of pressure from the local residents who have been persistent of pushing the kind of verdict to the criminals.
