Albemarle High School student was shot on Tuesday morning. According to multiple online reports, the shooting occurred at around 7:40 a.m. in the courtyard of Albemarle High School, which is approximately 35 miles to the east of Charlotte.

As reported, within minutes of receiving distress calls, almost two dozen law enforcement officers from the county, highway patrol, city, and other jurisdictions were quick to respond.

As stated by the Albemarle police, the victim was immediately brought to the hospital. He was shot in his lower extremities. His medical condition remains unknown to date.

Additionally, another Albemarle High School student has also been taken into custody. It was actually a resource officer of the school who was able to stop the suspect from wreaking further havoc. With regards to the identity of this other male student, who is believed to be the shooter, no other details have been provided. The only information that Albemarle Police Chief William Halliburton told the press was that the suspect was a male student.

Halliburton stated that the shooter dropped the gun and opted to turn himself in right when the police arrived at the scene.

According to Halliburton's statements, the two students were having an argument, and that the shooting happened very quickly. A handgun has been found on the ground at the scene and has been recovered by the local police.

The Albemarle High School shooting actually happened a few minutes before the first classes of the day started. The police strongly believe that some of the students who were near the scene when the shooting happened were able to witness the incident. To date, interviews are still ongoing.

The authorities then had to lock down Albemarle High School. Not so surprisingly, the police was able to completely evacuate the premises in just 90 minutes. All of the classes for Tuesday have also been canceled.
