NBA superstars of the Portland Trail Blazers namely Wesley Matthews and Robin Lopez are headed to the Philippines. Along the legendary NBA Coach of the Year, Avery Johnson, the trio are scheduled to land at Northern Cebu by the 12th of September to help Yolanda-struck victims in the area.

This visit was announced by the World Vision Philippines and by the NBA. Johnson, Matthews and Lopez are set to keep NBA's continuing pledge to aid families and children affected by the super typhoon, Yolanda. Basketball clinics will also be conducted by the NBA stars for the local kids.

"The NBA has assisted World Vision's emergency responses in the past, and we are grateful for the continued support. We are happy to host the upcoming visit of Robin Lopez, Wesley Matthews and Avery Johnson to Cebu, and our community partners, especially the basketball-loving children, will be delighted to meet with the NBA players in what we trust will be a fun and meaningful exchange for both the NBA visitors and the local community," stated World Vision Development Foundation Executive Director, Josaias dela Cruz.

NBA has continued to contribute financial support to the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines. In fact, reports state that the NBA has already contributed $2.2 million and counting. A $250,000 donation was also given to the World Vision back in November by the National Basketball Players Association and by the NBA.

An amount of $150,000 was also given by the Los Angeles Lakers to the Jr. NBA Philippines All-Stars during their NBA Experience trip of November 2013. As for Johnson, Matthews and Lopez, these NBA superstars aren't the first to visit the Yolanda-struck community in Cebu.

Last August 2013, WNBA's Allison Feaster along with NBA's Derrick Alston visited Cebu and Leyte. The duo not only participated in tree-planting activities but they too had helped out in the construction of schools. Basketballs and books were also donated by Alston and Feaster.

Other US superstars that have visited the victims of Yolanda in Cebu include Canadian crooner, Justin Bieber and soccer superstar, David Beckham.
