Duchess Kate Middleton and Prince William are reportedly expecting their second child, according to a report on the Royal Family on Monday morning. This announcement was made by Clarence House on Twitter.

The report said, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their second child. The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news that their Royal Highness is expecting their second child."

Just like with her first pregnancy, Duchess Kate fashion icon is presently showing signs and symptoms of acute morning sickness. She is currently being treated by her doctors at her apartment in Kensington Palace. She was supposed to join her husband at a particular engagement in Oxford on Monday afternoon, but, due to her condition, she opted to miss it and rest. The Royal Couple was actually supposed to open the Dickson Poon University in Oxford China Center Building together, as well as personally meet the staff of St. Hugh's College.

The spokesperson of the Palace has already stated, "She is at home being looked after by the surgeon gynecologist to the Queen, Alan Farthing, and the surgeon gynecologist to the Royal household, Guy Thorpe-Beeston."

The Palace has also indicated that the pregnancy has not yet reached its 12-week point. However, the couple still decided to make the official announcement since Duchess Kate will most likely be missing many public engagements in the coming weeks.

The spokesperson then continued, "There are a number of forthcoming engagements. So, we took the decision to be fully open about it at this point. One is the forthcoming visit to Malta and a decision on that will be taken closer to the time."

As soon as the news of the pregnancy was made public, many started to speculate about the effects it may have on the Scottish independence referendum campaigns. Alex Salmond, the leader of the Scottish National party, as well as the figurehead of the 'Yes' campaign, even posted on Twitter, using the Royal Couple's Scottish titles, "Congratulations and best wishes to the Earl & Countess of Strathearn. Wonderful to hear they're expecting their second baby - very happy news!"
