Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant could make his return to the D.C Area and join the Washington Wizards in 2016, a long-time NBA analyst Chris Sheridan came up with this idea on his article this week.

Sheridan, who is the editor-in-chief and founder of popular basketball blogsite Sheridan Hoops, believed the Wizards is a potential free-agency destination for Durant when he's expected to hit the market in 2016.

The analysts said Gary Williams, the head coach of the Maryland Terrapins, started the rumors on Durant's hookup with the Wizards by saying he won't be surprised to see the reigning NBA MVP deciding to make a homecoming decision just like LeBron James did a couple of weeks ago.

"This story is being driven by Maryland coach Gary Williams saying it wouldn't surprise him at all for Kevin Durant to go back to DC and play for the Wizards." Sheridan said in an interview with CineSport. "Of course, it's two year's away, that's a long time into the future but summertime is when we talk about free-agency and what players might do in the future."

"Look LeBron James might be the trendsetter because Lebron went back home to join Cleveland." Sheridan said. "Players are starting to play for their hometown teams. That could be the new new, but again that's two years away and we gonna see the Thunder do between now and then."

Sheridan believed the Thunder could lose Durant if they failed to bring over a solid supporting casts that would help them get over the hump in a very competitive Western Conference in the next two years.

The Thunder reached their maiden NBA finals in 2012, where they lost to Miami Heat in five games. Since then, the Thunder got eliminated by the Memphis Grizzlies (second round) in 2013 and then the San Antonio Spurs (conference finals) in 2014 in the West playoffs.

The decision to trade James Harden to the Houston Rockets might be viewed as the primarily reasons to the Thunder's playoff struggle, as they missed the extra offensive boost the bearded player regularly produced during his tenure in Oklahoma.
