Laverne Cox proves that she knows her Emmy history. The "Orange is the New Black" star went online last night, and even checked out her chances at the renowned Emmy Awards at an Emmy prediction website. She also thought that she did not really have much of a chance to land an Emmy nomination.

The transgender actress said, "I went to sleep and I let it go. I said, 'Okay, God. I think the show's going to be nominated. And that's amazing.' And I closed my eyes and let it go." Laverne Cox is a real-life transgender star who plays the role of a transgender inmate, Sophia Burset, on the famous show on Netflix.

She was admittedly surprised when she woke up and found out that she was the first ever openly transgender woman to be nominated for an Emmy award. Laverne Cox recalls that she knows of another transgender woman who got an Emmy nomination before, but was not open about her sexuality then.

With regards to her nomination, she said that she is "over the moon, effervescent and every cliché that's related to super happy". She believes that her nomination in the category of Guest Actress Comedy is a "game-changing" feat at the Emmys.

Laverne Cox said when she called from New York, "Oh my God. It's going to take me a while to get used to saying 'Emmy-nominated actress.' I only quit my restaurant job a year ago. So, let me tell you, this is pretty good." Cox was in New York that time where the 3rd season of "Orange is the New Black" was being filmed.

Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President and Chief Executive, praised Laverne Cox for her nomination. She said, "Today, countless transgender youth will hear the message that they can be who they are and still achieve their dreams - nothing is out of reach. Laverne's success on a hit series is a clear indication that audiences are ready for more trans characters on television."
