Daytona wreck today happening on Lap 20 involved a major crash which claimed more than 17 cars. According to Sporting News, the Daytona wreck today also included Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick.

Motor Sports Talk reports that the major Daytona wreck today involved a total of 25 cars during Sunday's rain-rescheduled Coke Zero 400. The Daytona wreck today surprisingly amassed wreck of nearly half the field of the Daytona International Speedway.

Despite possible rain on up ahead, according to Motor Sports Talk, it appeared on TV replay that Greg Biffle's Ford got into the rear of Kasey Kahne's Chevrolet while heading into Turn 1 on Lap. This caused him to spin and hook onto the Ford of Joey Logano. This reportedly began the sheer mayhem that is the Daytona wreck today.

After this incident, drivers reportedly started flying all across race track. In the chaos of it all in the Daytona wreck today, Kyle Busch eventually wound up upside down in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. The younger Busch brother was fortunate enough to end up uninjured, while his car did not reach the same catastrophic fate as the others as it was also slowly righted onto its wheels. When Busch climbed out, he immediately received warm cheers and a round of applause from the crowd.

Biffle told TNT of having survived the Daytona wreck today, 'I'm just so unhappy. It was just close-quarters racing. Kasey went into the middle and ran into the back of the 13 car and slowed way up and I hit the back of the 5. We weren't lined up. He moved down for some reason when he hit the 13 (Casey Mears) or something, but just a chain reaction.'

He added, 'You just never know cars are going to slow down that quick. I had a shove from the 34 (David Ragan) from behind and you just can't react that fast, unfortunately.'

Meanwhile, David Gilliland said of his experience in the Daytona wreck today, 'I knew there was going to be trouble there. I probably should have given myself more room. Cars were just sliding around all over. ... What a mess. Not the day we were looking forward.'

Kahne also noted, 'I was just getting hit from behind. I was in a tough spot. ... I'm not exactly sure what happened. It's too bad.'

While Kyle Busch said of his Daytona wreck today experience, 'It just felt like a slow carnival ride. I guess that's fitting for the Fourth of July, but not here for Daytona. ... I just got T-boned at the end there and toppled me over.'

Jamie McMurray also added, 'It was a helpless feeling.'

According to Sporting News, the race eventually resumed on Lap 104 with Aric Almirola in the lead. However, the race was postponed and went back due to rain caution five laps later.

While the race was postponed Saturday due to rain, on Sunday, it was stopped twice, once because of rain, and the other due to the Daytona wreck today.

Daytona wreck today fortunately did not lead to any deaths. Showers in Florida might be common during the summer season, but reports say the rain-related postponement in the latest Daytona race is the first since the Independence Day weekend race moved to night in 1998. In October, that race in 1998 was run after wildfires forced the event to be postponed.
