A year after making a name for herself in the music industry with her chart-topping hit "Royals", Lorde has just found a much better reason to be happy. She took to Twitter on the 16th of June to share her exciting news with everyone. She tweeted, "BEST DAY, went to Niagara Falls - my dad proposed to my mum after almost 30 years together."

17-year-old Lorde continued her tweet with a long set of emojis in an attempt to show precisely how happy she was. She included a lot of heart emojis, a diamond ring, a red rose, and smiley faces with heart-struck eyes.

Her father, Vic O'Connor, a civil engineer, has just recently proposed to her mother, known poet Sonja Yelich, at the Niagara Falls. They have been together for 30 years but O'Connor seemed to have planned everything for the Niagara Falls proposal.

Lorde had also acknowledged the irony of the beginning lyrics of her hit song "Royals" with the details of the proposal. The lyrics go, "I've never seen a diamond in the flesh / I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies / And I'm not proud of my address / In a torn-up town, no postcode envy." In reference to this, she tweeted, "Inevitable response yes I know I have seen a diamond now."

Lorde was always vocal when it came to her relationship with her parents. She once told Interview magazine during an exclusive one-on-one, "My parents are really onto it; they know what young people need. My mum takes my iPhone off me at night, because I need to do homework and sleep. Otherwise, I'd spend all night on Facebook and Instagram...My parents are pretty good; they understand what I really want. If I do decide to leave school at the end of this year, that's a bridge we'll cross."
