Owning a convertible is all about the driving experience. Letting the top town on a beautiful day and feeling the wind through your hair is an exhilarating adventure each time you drive. Not to mention the one-of-a-kind views drop-tops allow you to see while behind the wheel.

Even though there are some cons to owning these vehicles - such as the increased risk of break-ins and higher rates for convertible car insurance - the views and experience of owning them can often make up for these negatives.

One of the best ways to enjoy your convertible car is to take it on a road trip. Traveling to new and stunning locations can make you happy to own a vehicle that allows you to take in such incredible scenery.

You might be wondering just where you should take your drop-top on a road trip. With so many destinations to choose from, it can be challenging to narrow your choices down. While there are many locations to consider, some simply stand out more than others.

#1 - Pacific Coast Highway, California

Undoubtedly one of the most popular and well-known driving destinations, the Pacific Coast Highway stays famous for a reason. This road is the longest state route in California, spanning over 650 miles.

While driving this breathtaking stretch of road, you'll pass through some famous cities in the Golden State such as San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles. You will also see incredible views of the Pacific Ocean on your drive. Feel free to stop off at any point and take in the beautiful beaches, grab lunch, and even do some shopping on your trip.

Many recommend beginning your Pacific Coast Highway road trip at the northernmost point, then heading south. If you want to enjoy all the ocean views, this is excellent advice. Starting on the northern portion of the highway allows you to stay on the coast your entire drive.

A part of your drive will be rerouted through cities when you begin from the south, causing you to miss some of the breathtaking scenery. However, if you're more interested in city stops than coastal views, starting south may be the better option.

No matter which direction you choose to begin your journey, the Pacific Coast Highway is a great destination to take the top down and enjoy the incredible views.

#2 - Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia & North Carolina

This beautiful stretch of road runs from the southern end of Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance. This scenic drive will take you just over 460 miles through the Appalachian Mountains.

Designated as an All-American Road, this trip is perfect for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and get back to nature. Billboards and commercial traffic are banned from the Blue Ridge Parkway, allowing you to immerse yourself in the surrounding views and scenery.

You will find many scenic and historical stopping points along your drive but not many modern amenities. The main focus of this road is the natural beauty, so if you're searching for cities or a more urban destination, you may have to take a slight detour. A few mountain towns are located off the main parkway; you can stop for a meal or even a shopping trip.

The parkway is open year-round, although it may be best to avoid winters if you take a convertible trip. The mountains sit in the southern portion of the U.S., but they still can see heavy snowfall and harsh winters. Spring, summer, and fall are ideal seasons to enjoy this breathtaking drive.

#3 - Florida Keys Overseas Highway, Florida

If turquoise blue waters as far as the eye can see are your dream road trip, look no further than the Florida Keys Overseas Highway. This stunning road runs for 113 miles and connects the mainland to the Florida Keys for a unique and beautiful drive perfect for letting your top down.

The main attraction on the Overseas Highway is the Seven Mile Bridge, an incredible stretch of road cutting directly across the ocean. The bridge runs for 6.8 miles, and you will undoubtedly never forget this portion of your journey.

While driving this scenic road, you may notice another similar road paralleling it. Next to the Seven Mile Bridge is the original bridge, completed in 1912. Although it's no longer drivable, it's a fantastic sight to see as you make your journey across the ocean to the Keys.

During your trip across the Overseas Highway, you'll enjoy the sunny weather and scenery only the Florida Keys can offer. You can make as many pit stops as you choose, taking in the unique atmosphere each of the Keys is known for.

#4 - Scenic Byway 12, Utah

Another designated All-American Road, Scenic Byway 12, is a stunning road stretching 112 miles through Utah. You won't find views quite as spectacular anywhere else in the country.

You'll pass multiple national parks, national monuments, state parks, and scenic overlooks as you drive along the road. There are also unique towns with eclectic shops and restaurants. Though these towns may be scattered throughout the drive, they are certainly worth a stop during your trip.

The geological wonders of Utah are what make this trip stand out. During your drive, you'll pass by incredible rock formations and mountain peaks, even having the opportunity to drive under a beautiful rock arch.

The most notable stretch of Byway 12 is the Hogback, a thrilling portion of the road that may have you gripping the steering wheel a little tighter. The Hogback is full of winding curves and steep dropoffs on either side. Be mindful of the road here as you take in the views, as there are no guard rails to keep you protected.

Drop-Top Worthy Destinations

Owning a convertible may come with downsides, such as increased insurance rates and higher chances of theft, but they are still a popular car choice for a reason. Letting down the top and enjoying beautiful views is an experience unlike any other.

If you own a drop-top, taking a scenic drive is one of the best ways to enjoy them. While many locations across the U.S. are beautiful, these roads top the list. They are stunning, with plenty of miles to enjoy every second of your adventure.

If you're looking for sunshine or mountain views, these dream destinations surely won't leave you disappointed. All that's left to do is take the top down and enjoy.
