If you're planning a trip to Houston, you can rest assured that there will be many things that are worth seeing and doing in the city. As a food, architecture, and science hub, Houston offers a wide range of tourist attractions. A three-day itinerary should give you time to explore a large number of places, as long as you know what to visit. Below are some top attractions that you can check out based on your interests.

Science, history, and art

You would come across a surprisingly large number of museums in Houston. In fact, this is why Houston is a popular attraction for individuals who are into history, science, or art. Some of the museums in Houston that you would not want to miss out on are:

1. The Houston Museum of Natural Science

The Houston Museum of Natural Science possesses an extensive collection of exciting exhibits. These include an exhibit about Amazonia, a Planetology Hall that has gained worldwide recognition, and a butterfly garden. Besides natural science, the museum also comes with an Egyptology exhibit and other historical displays.

2. NASA's space station

You simply cannot skip NASA's space station while visiting Houston, the space city. Especially if you are interested in astronomy and space, you will enjoy several hours learning new things. The space station also houses some spacecraft that you can check out, including Apollo 17 and Gemini V.

3. The Museum of fine arts, Houston

Art enthusiasts would not want to miss out on The Museum of Fine Arts. The museum is home to a vast collection of art exhibits, including rare sculptures from Africa and Renaissance art. The resident DJ and the delicious food from the food trucks also make the museum a notable place to spend time with your friends.

4. The National Museum of Funeral History

You wouldn't always find a Houston travel guide recommending you visit The National Museum of Funeral History. However, if you like checking out unusual places, explore this museum to learn about interesting funeral customs, including the traditions of a Pope's burial. The key attractions here even include a recreation of Abraham Lincoln's state funeral.

Parks and other recreational spaces

Houston isn't just for individuals interested in learning about science and history. The city also houses various leisure destinations, including nature and entertainment parks.

1. Buffalo Bayou Park

If you want a nice place to enjoy a walk, you should certainly visit Buffalo Bayou Park. This 124-acre offers a refreshing environment, with rich foliage, walking and cycling trails, a slow-moving river, and a large colony of bats.

2. Gerald D. Hines Waterwall

Although man-made, this waterfall is quite impressive and elegant. Gerald D. Hines Waterwall lies close to many other major attractions, which means that you can quickly visit it during your tour without having to go off-the-route.

3. Galveston

In case you are more into amusement parks and beaches, Galveston is a perfect place to visit. The coastline here is home to multiple beaches, plenty of rides, and other fun features. This is also a historical district, with various seafaring inns and ample Victorian architecture.

4. Hermann Park

You can spend several hours exploring Hermann Park, which actually offers multiple attractions in addition to the park itself. These include the Hermann Park Railroad, Miller Outdoor Theatre, the Japanese Garden, and more.

Food and shopping

If you are among those who love to spend a great deal of time shopping or treating your tastebuds, do not worry. Houston also comes with plenty of prominent restaurants and shopping hubs like:

1. The Galleria

You should definitely visit the Galleria if you prefer to shop from boutique stores. This 400-acre plus shopping complex is home to more than four hundred stores, eateries, and hotels. The various recreational features would help you enjoy your time here too.

2. Chinatown

Food lovers should definitely not skip Chinatown during a trip to Houston. Some of the best places here to taste Asian cuisine are the Hong Kong Food Market, Ocean Palace, and Tan Tan. Chinatown also comes with the Jade Buddha Temple and a tranquil lotus pond.

3. La Carafe

If you are looking for an old-school place to enjoy some drinks, go to La Carafe. Written down on the National Register of Historic Places, this tavern is famous for its wine, beer and jukebox music. The tavern happens to be over a century old and offers a beautiful ambiance that you would love.

Conclusion

These are only some of the places to visit during your Houston itinerary. You could also check out other attractions, such as San Jacinto Park, Bishop's Palace, Skyspace, etc. The amazing wall art along the streets of Houston is a treat for the eyes too. Just plan ahead for a tour that would be efficient and help you cover the maximum number of spots within the three days.
