Top Apps Must-Have Apps Every Traveler Needs

(Photo: Dino Reichmuth on Unsplash)

Track any flight in real-time, plan activities, and find a place to stay on your next trip.

Need a helping hand to organize your next trip? No sweat.

Travelers apps can help you navigate a new city, make currency conversions; pack a perfect suitcase; even find the best travel destinations. Everything you need on the go, there's an app for that.

But it can be a real headache to understand which ones you need to organize your trip in a perfect way or and which are a waste of time.

Take a deep breath.

Here is a list of the best apps for travelers in 2022.

Now you don't have to shuffle through that sea of travel apps.

1. MyTSA

Price: free.
Platforms: iOS, Android

Before you take a trip, make extra sure you've downloaded MyTSA on your phone. The official app of the Transportation Security Administration can't boast of a pretty interface, but it will let you check wait times at security checkpoints at major airports. And that might help you plan on how much travel time you need to allow.

The app checks how busy the airport is likely to be on your specific day and time of travel based on historical data. The ability to search for things to take with you on the plane, receive real-time help, and find out info on the TSA PreCheck program make this app a good travel app to always have at hand on your phone.

2. Expedia

Price: free.
Platforms: iOS, Android

If you travel frequently, you need a full-service travel app, and Expedia is one of the must-have apps. You can book every aspect of your trip through Expedia, including flights, hotels, vacation rentals, rental cars, cruises, activities, attractions, and services.

If you're looking to stretch your travel budget even further, Expedia offers exclusive deals for mobile users, Expedia reward members receive additional perks.

3. Flighty

Price: free. But there is a paid subscription ($8.99 a month or $49.99 per year).
Platforms: iOS.

There are flight trackers, and then there's Flighty, an iOS app for travelers and anyone who happens to be particularly obsessed with flight tracking. The app combines smart design choices with traveler-centric features to generate a comprehensive picture of every flight you track. It offers detailed flight maps, live tracking, and delay forecasting - but the real magic is the perfectly timed notifications that keep you up to date and stress-free.

The free version of the app gives you basic flight tracking tools, but pays for a subscription, and you get access to more advanced features like push notifications, TripIt or calendars sync, and an assistant to help with your flight connections.

4. TripIt

Price: free. But there is an annual subscription ($48.99 per year).
Platforms: iOS, Android.

Are you on a trip that involves multiple hotels or flights, or you just can't keep track of your booking numbers? Then TripIt is your new best friend. Just send your confirmation emails, or let TripIt access your inbox, and the app will create a simple route for you with maps.

While TripIt is free to download, $48.99 per year allows you to enjoy additional features like flight alerts, terminal notifications, and seat tracker, which notifies you if better seats become available, as well as updates on security wait times and searchable airport maps with walking directions.

5. Roadtrippers

Price: free.

Platforms: iOS, Android.

Another handy travel companion when you hit the road is the aptly named Roadtrippers, a road trip planning tool that allows you to map your route with up to 7 waypoints free of charge. After that, there's an option to upgrade to Roadtrippers Plus.

Along your route, the app will recommend local restaurants, roadside attractions, scenic stops, and more. They even have pre-made guides for popular road trips as well as unexplored tourist sites.

6. Airbnb

Price: free.

Platforms: iOS, Android.

Airbnb allows users to search for and find unique accommodations around the globe, from mom-and-pop B&Bs for a night, to a small apartment for a week, or even a castle for a month. There's no shortage of quirky and unique establishments. This app can help you find a home away from home with over 6 million choices ranging across over 191 countries. You can search by things such as price, area, nearby amenities and more. Save your favorite rental homes for future holidays and find new experiences to enjoy while you're away.

7. TripAdvisor

Price: free.

Platforms: iOS, Android.

Tripadvisor is one of the most comprehensive online sources when it comes to travel. You can quickly view background information about different cities and regions, plus highlights of what to see and do. You can also ask specific travel questions or find travel tips in the app's forums or add your own reviews similar to Yelp.

TripAdvisor also maintains relationships with various booking sites, too, which means once you finish researching hotels or restaurants, you can easily reserve them.

Thing You Need To Know

Creating memories and a travel blog has become a trend today. In this age, having handy smartphones for creating videos and taking photos while traveling is a boon for all of us.

But simply taking videos is not enough, as sometimes the picture quality or the shots taken in the video may not be clear. This is where various video-editing apps come in handy and help you create the perfect travel video to share on social media.

Moreover, remember that an awesome travel video can come to the top of the YouTube charts, making you popular or triggering your own blog. So be sure to make your video of the most popular format so it can be spread and opened on as many platforms as possible. Click here    to learn more about it.
