Are Progressive Lenses Worth It?

Did you know that your eyeglasses come in a wide range of types? For instance, you can get standard glasses and night vision glasses. Moreover, you can get different types of lenses. Let's say that you need a lens that's for more strength. Your eye doctor can choose to prescribe you bifocal or trifocal lenses. It usually depends on how bad your vision is. While these two lenses are good if you require more strength, they're still designed with a line that's visible for separating these lenses. Some people opt for a lens that is multifocal without a visible line. This type of lens is called a progressive additional lens (PAL). If you're trying to figure out if it's worth it or not, you should keep on reading.

What are Progressive Additional Lenses (PAL)?

The fact of the matter is that you should know what this type of lens is before you can figure out if you want to choose them or not. If you are one of those people that require corrective lenses to see far or close-up objects, then this multifocal lens is specifically for you. In simple terms, this type of multifocal lens allows you to see an object at various distances without creating a visible bifocal line.

The thing is, your vision gets worse with age. By the time you reach 40, you'll likely struggle to focus your vision on nearby objects. The easiest route is for you to get single-vision glasses along with reading glasses. However, when you choose to go with PALs, you're giving yourself a simpler and convenient solution. Especially, if you're dealing with vision problems that are age-related. It provides you a three-in-one solution that can be summarized as follows.

●    Your lower section gives you the required visual strength to see any object that's close.

●    The middle one allows you to see anything that's in the middle or intermediate.

●    Lastly, the upper section gives you the strength to see objects that are in the distance.

Are Progressive Additional Lenses (PALs) Worth It?

The simple answer is yes. These lenses are worth it because they offer you a myriad of benefits. For one, they don't only correct your far or nearsightedness. These lenses are also a great solution for correcting your astigmatism. This is a common condition where you struggle to focus light in your retina. As a result, you suffer from blurry vision. Besides correcting your vision problems, these are other benefits of choosing a PAL for your eyes.

●    You only use one pair of glasses.

●    You no longer have to worry about an unsightly bifocal line.

●    It makes you look modern.

While there are benefits of wearing these types of lenses, you should still know that there are some drawbacks to using them. For example, you might struggle when you wear them. This can lead to mild or severe peripheral distortion.

In summary, there's no doubt that progressive additional lenses are the kind of innovative solution that you need. However, you still need to adjust to using them, and sometimes it can be difficult. Fortunately, visual technology is constantly improving. Tomorrow, you might not need to worry about being unable to use PALs.
