The sudden royal family death greatly devastated the Duchess of Cornwall and her husband Prince Charles. Shand's accident occurred when he was in Manhattan for an event to raise funds. According to MailOnline, he was overseeing Faberge Big Egg Hunt auction at Sotheby's in New York to raise money for his elephant charity. The Elephant Family actually works to prevent the extinction of the endangered Asian elephants.

After the charity auction, Mr. Shand headed to the after party in the Diamond Horseshoe Club in Paramount hotel. Reports also say that he hit his head when he tried to enter the Gramercy Park Hotel through a revolving door after lighting a cigarette outside, about three o'clock in the morning. He was then rushed to the Bellvue Hospital.

The royal family death brought tears to Camilla as Mark Shand is her only brother whom she is very close to. Shand has been placed on a life-support machine but eventually passed away twelve hours later. This tragic loss deeply saddened the entire family.

Some details about Shand's death were already released by the New York Police Department. It was also reported that Mr. Shand has been taking medications for his blood pressure that occasionally make him dizzy. Statements to show sympathy from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were released about this tragic royal family death.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were saddened to learn this morning of the tragic death of Mark Shand. Their thoughts are with The Duchess of Cornwall and her family at this time." A spokesman for the couple stated.

A Clarence House spokesman stated earlier: "It is with deep sadness that we have to confirm that the Duchess of Cornwall's brother, Mark Shand, has today passed away in New York. "
