Memorial Day Weekend 2014: Travelocity Announces The Best Days to Fly During Holiday Weekend

Memorial Day will be here before you know it and that means it's time to start planning your trips for the holiday weekend and Travelocity is helping travelers make plans that could save them money.

After one of the longest, coldest winters across the country, many cannot wait for Memorial Day weekend and warmer weather. With Memorial Day just a little more than a month away, it's time to make travel plans. According to Travelocity's newly released Memorial Day 2014 data, the cost of travel is up 4.2% this year, but Memorial Day deals are still available.

In its report, Travelocity determined which days are cheapest to fly during the holiday weekend and the "Price to Beat." Travelocity lists a "Price to Beat" so deal hunters can know when they're getting a good deal on a flight. According to the site, the Price to Beat for domestic travel is $367 for round-trip airfare, up 4.2% over 2013.   For international travelers, the Price to Beat is $939 for a round-trip flight, up only 1.3% year-over-year. 

When it comes to Memorial Day Weekend, Travelocity says the best day to leave for a holiday trip is Wednesday, May 21 and the best day to return is Sunday, May 25 and the average round-trip ticket price for these dates is $388. The most expensive days to fly over the holiday weekend happens to be Sunday, May 18 for departures and Memorial Day itself, Monday, May 26 is the most expensive return date as well as Wednesday, May 26 and the round trip prices come to $589 and $592 respectively.
