"We can confirm that an 18-year-old male guest passed away in his cabin at approximately 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26 during an eight-day voyage of the Carnival Miracle, which ended later that morning in New York," Carnival Cruise Line spokesman Vance Gulliksen said according to cruise critic. "The cause of death has not been determined... We extend our deepest sympathies to the young man's family and loved ones during this very difficult time."

A cruise critic member who claimed to be married one of one Younes' cousins said alcohol played a part in his death, but Gulliksen says he wasn't served alcohol.

"We can confirm that, based on the preliminary investigation there is no indication he was served any alcohol by shipboard personnel," Gulliksen said.

As part of a standard practice, the FBI was contacted to investigate the incident.

"FBI representatives boarded the ship on Tuesday morning to conduct an investigation. No foul play is suspected," Gulliksen said.

The FBI is investigating the death, as confirmed by to J. Peter Donald in the New York field office, but he wouldn't say how Younes died.

"That is part of what we're investigating," Donald told Cruise Critic.

An autopsy is being conducted. The FBI will review any evidence in the case. Carnival is being cooperative.

Younes was on the 8-day cruise with his family. It left from New York on February 18 and was sailing to the Bahamas.
