Over a year after its last revival, the highly anticipated Chris Carter-created series, "The X-Files" season 11 is set to return on Fox later this year or by the following year.  Fans need not wait that long since it has been announced yesterday that its production is scheduled to begin this summer.

The new season will have 10 new episodes and it is expected to follow the story of FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. As of now, Fox has not revealed any details yet with its plot story but it is already confirmed that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles for season 11, Forbes reported.

These two lead actors will continue with their jobs as FBI agents and they will also continue investigating X-files that involve paranormal phenomena that remain unsolved. Perhaps, both stars are excited for their comeback on season 11 wherein Anderson just posted a tweet on Duchovny about the series return.

This acclaimed television series gained several awards. It won 16 Emmys and has run for nine seasons until 2002 with an approximate 202 episodes. Due to the series popularity, it came back last year for its highly anticipated tenth season renewal. This hit TV series even generated two great movies.

As per Rolling Stone, "The X-Files" drew high ratings on Fox. It's season 10 ended with a cliffhanger wherein Anderson once told in an interview that she is not certain about the future of the show. There are potential changes on the schedules and there might also be potential and extraordinary circumstances.

Nonetheless, the series creator Chris Carter is still confident that they are sure to come back when he was once interviewed in 2016. And definitely, like what the series creator said about its chances of return, season 11 is finally hitting the screen soon.
