Two people were critically injured after a shooting took place outside a Las vegas movie theater.

According to the Associated Press, a shooting took place just after midnight in the parking garage outside the UA Showcase 8 theater. Police don't believe the shooting was random but the shooter, or possibly shooters, have not been identified. The number of shooters was not clear, but multiple shots were fired.

Early reports said the shooting took place inside the lobby of the theater, but this was not the case.

"The theater had nothing to do with it," Officer Laura Meltzer told The Associated Press. "They were not coming from a movie. It was not in the theater lobby."

Police think this shooting was connected to an ongoing fight between members of two different groups who were in the parking garage outside the theater. The garage is connected to the theater and the Las Vegas Boulevard.

The injured victims were located in the lobby of the parking structure and the other was in the elevator on the fifth floor. Both victims were taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas and they were in critical condition.
Another victim was near the street in front of the lobby but he was treated with non-life-threatening injuries.

Meltzer said investigators don't believe the confrontation between the two groups was gang-related, but they were still trying to determine the relationship between them.

Police and property security officers closed exits and entrances to the Showcase Mall parking structure for more than two hours while they investigated, the police spokeswoman said.

Guests at the movie theater left before the shooting occurred as the last movie ended. Meltzer wasn't sure if anyone was still inside.

"There's no indication in the call that any evacuation was needed," she said.
