With every day that passed by takes us closer to the highly-anticipated "Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi" that is set to hit the theaters this coming December. However, hardcore fans of the franchise are already looking forward to the untitled "Star Wars Episode IX." One of the popular subjects of debates is the appearance of the late Carrie Fisher in the ninth installment and now recent updates have provided a definite answer.

Last Friday, April 14, Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy made a surprise announcement that Carrie Fisher who played Princess Leia or General Leia Organa will not be featured in the ninth film. However, she mentioned that the late actress will be heavily featured in the upcoming "The Last Jedi" this coming December. She issued this statement to clear up Fisher's brother, Todd in his allegations that his sister will make an appearance in "Star Wars: Episode IX."

"Sadly, Carrie will not be in nine," she confirmed. "But we will see a lot of Carrie in eight, " said Kennedy. She mentioned that Todd just got confused and his statements are not meant to mislead the fans in any way. According to Belfast Telegraph, Fisher will have her final appearance in the franchise this December as she will not be digitally recreated for any of the upcoming movies.

Kennedy also revealed that the whole storyline for "Episode 9" was made again from scratch following the actress' untimely death. Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger also mentioned that though the story was changed the ending would still be the same.

In other reports, Kennedy mentioned that the Skywalker saga may have a possibility to push through the three trilogies that George Lucas had originally planned as reported by Independent. She said that she can foresee the story going further and pass nine movies but the show makers are still in the talks regarding this matter. However, she stayed firm on her statements that if the story requires it, they will do it. Though nothing is set in stone, she hinted that we may have an official announcement next year.
