Every year thousands descend upon Edinburgh's streets to celebrate New Years Eve, also known as  Hogmanay.

The Scotsman reported that there were 75, 000 people are expected to attend this years event. Hogmanay-edinburgh.com reported that the celebration in Edinburgh is regarded as one of the world's biggest.

"The volume of people that head to Edinburgh each year has become so great that some years back the local council had to make the huge street party a ticket only event. If you are headed to Edinburgh make sure you have a street pass or if doing an inclusive tour that the street party pass is included," hogmanay-edinburgh.com stated.

The Edinburgh streets come alive with nearly 100,000 revellers yearly. Its one of the biggest outdoor parties in the world and passes are needed to join in an effort to control the number of people.

Scottish rockband Simple Minds will headline a concert in the gardens. Scottish news, stv.tv said that there are five live stages full of musical performances and fireworks at 9 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. with a midnight fireworks display from Edinburgh castle.

"We like to think that Edinburgh's Hogmanay puts Edinburgh once again in the centre of the world map, and that the experiences that you will enjoy here are because you are in a beautiful city and in the best possible company - the famously friendly Scots," Pete Irvine from Edinburgh's Hogmanay said to stv.tv.

The festivities don't end at midnight. Every year party goers jump into the freezing waters at Queensferry for the annual Loony Dook. Which is when celebrators attempt a local triathalon.
