"Penny Dreadful" gained a huge following after its successful three seasons. Being one of the most popular shows on Showtime, fans are looking forward to "Penny Dreadful" Season 4. But up to this date, there isn't any confirmation yet if Season 4 is indeed coming.

To recall, Eva Green’s character Vanessa Ives died in the finale of Season 3. According to the show's creator, John Logan, this would be the end of the show since Vanessa is already dead. He noted that there is no more reason to go on with Season 4 because "Penny Dreadful" is about Vanessa. But then, given the storyline and genre of the show, there is a possibility that Vanessa will come back to life.

Despite what Logan said, he expressed that he is not opposed to any sequel. With Vanessa dead, the sequel could possibly be based on other existing characters or even on new ones. According to Opptrends, actor Josh Hartnett who plays Ethan said that he is willing to proceed with the show. Because of this, it is possible that Season 4 could be based on Ethan Chandler.

Although "Penny Dreadful" Season 4 is not confirmed yet, one indication that this is happening is the release of a comic book which tackles on where Season 3 left off. The comics are about Ethan who searches for meaning in a world without Vanessa. According to Dread Central, Ethan is called to "take up arms against the creatures crawling out of the night." A teaser trailer about the comics was recently released.

The Titan Comics "Penny Dreadful #1: The Awakening is written by TV series co-executive producer Chris King. Its interior art is done by Jesús Hervás (Sons of Anarchy) while Jason Wordie worked on the colors. It comes with six different covers. The comics version of the TV show will be available in comic stores and on digital platforms on April 5, 2017.
