Mexican cuisine is one of the most celebrated in the world. But you don't have to go all the way to Mexico just to get a taste of genuine Mexican food.

In San Diego itself, there are tons of Mexican restaurants that will satisfy your cravings. Being near to the border and all, San Diego's Mexican cuisine is a really good deal. Here are some of the best Mexican restaurants in San Diego area:

Galaxy Taco Restaurant. Street food style Tacos are already good, imagine amping the recipe up 10 times more? Owned by Trey Foshee and George Hauer, Galaxy Taco's menu will have you swoon on all kinds of Tacos they serve, with organic corn tortillas, a variety of meat and vegetables prepared daily, and sauces so good you could snort them. Aside from Tacos, they also offer sinfully good dishes such as Hamachi sashimi, chili-braised beef short rib, and home-made fresh churros.

Puesto. San Diego locals love Puesto, and not just because the food is awesome, but it's budget-friendly as well. They have a promotion called Taco Tuesday, where for $2.50 you can get mouthwatering tacos and $3.50 for modelos. During weekdays, their happy hour starts from 3-5 pm, so go grab the amarindo shrimp tacos with Puerto's special margarita, and watch the sun go down at the nearby waterfront.

Casa Guadalajara Restaurant. This restaurant has a Mexican festival theme, but they're not just about the decors. Their menu features classic Mexican dishes that will warm and satisfy your hungry stomach. Their specialties include ceviche a la duran, tequila lime shrimp, carne asada and carnitas tacos. During your meal, you will also be serenaded by a gentle-singing troubadour with a guitar. Casa Guadalajara is located at the edge of Old Town San Diego.

Coasterra. A little pricey compared to other Mexican restaurants, but Coasterra lives up to the hype. If not, then you would be able to get a table at dinner without a reservation, which is virtually impossible. The restaurant specializes in modern Mexican cuisine-genuinely good Mexican food combined with a touch of class. Their bar menu is impressive, and you should definitely try their Jalisco Mule, their take on the classic Moscow Mule but with the replacement of vodka with tequila.
