The citizens of the United Arab Emirates experienced one of the rarest events in their region on February 4th. Temperatures dropped causing a snowfall in the region which caused groups of people to flock to the Jebel Jais Mountain in Ras al-Khaimah.

CNN reported that the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology, UAE's weather service, stated that the arid region's temperatures went down on Friday night to -5 degrees Celsius (23 Fahrenheit). UAE's average temperature since 2003 has been at a minimum of 13.3 degrees Celsius so it's really an unusual incident for the snowfall.

Now, pictures of Emiratis frolicking in the snow are spreading all over social media. The snow-covered peaks of Jebel Jais attracted lots of residents causing them to build snowmen, have snowball fights and tobogganing races. The snow reached to a height of about 10 centimeters of four inches and the locals really spent most of their time on the mountain.

However, the Ras Ak Khaimah really does experience some snow during the winter season but the latest heavy snowfall was a rare occurrence. According to Independent, the last recorded snowfall in Jebel Jais was way back in 2009 with a height of 20 centimeters. It was one unusual event that the people literally didn't have words to describe it.

In other news, Dubai also experienced some temperature drops but it wasn't as enjoyable in Ras Al Khaimah. On Friday, hail and strong winds ravaged the city streets of Dubai causing a few casualties. Local media reported that a crane was toppled in the highway which caused a fire that resulted to one injury

Tour of Dubai also canceled its fourth stage of its cycling race because of the extreme conditions. But in other parts of Dubai, especially on the coast, the temperature remained above 20 degrees Celsius. It appears that the cold conditions are over and the clear skies are back.
