Sergei Kuharsky, who is general manager of Food Network's new businesses said to the AP,

"The dynamic of food and travel has changed. You used to never go in and think about eating at an airport."

Now, with passengers arriving early to get through security and limited options for in-flight food, there's a market for airport dining. "We are responding to that opportunity."

The restaurant features food that is inspired from Food Network's test kitchens and the company has partnered with Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services.

A news release says that the restaurant offers local ingredients and sustainable food using organic produce.

Matt King, president of Delaware North Companies said in a statement, "We are thrilled to welcome travelers to our Food Network Kitchen at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, a first-of-its-kind concept offering the newest and freshest alternative in dining-on-the-go. Here, families can enjoy creative dining options that are fast, fresh and healthy in a welcoming environment with the attentive, hospitable services that guests have come to expect from Food Network and Delaware North Companies."

The AP reported that since opening the restaurant has seen an average of 1500 customers a day. The airport Food Network Kitchen is the first of its kind and is designed to appear like what you might see in the Food Network test kitchen.
