Hotels for the 2013 inauguration of President Barack Obama are still available, but they are selling out quickly around the area.

Those who want to be in Washington D.C. for the inauguration on January 21 may want to book a hotel as soon as possible as they are already sold out in certain areas.  Many hotels are only allowing people to book rooms for multiple nights.

Many hotels are sold out. Several hotels in Georgetown are booked for the Inauguration. For instance, Georgetown Suites was almost completely booked even before the election on Nov. 6. The next day, after President Obama was re-elected, all 220 of the suites were reserved for inauguration weekend, according to Patch.

According to Washington D.C.'s chief tourism officer,  Elliott L. Ferguson, hotels can still be booked.

"There's a lot of availability in Washington in terms of hotel rooms," Ferguson told the Washington Post. He said that the Capitol Hilton,  the Fairmont, the St. Regis and many other hotels still have vacancies for the inauguration week.

"I think the key thing is understanding that those hotels usually require a stay of three or four nights. So somebody might search for a hotel room for the inauguration and it might say that there are no rooms available for that search because of that requirement."

During President Obama's first inauguration in 2009, about 1.8 million people were there witness it , even though temperatures were freezing. Many wanted to catch the historic moment for themselves. The crowd was the biggest that the city has ever seen for an event.

It isn't likely that the crowd will be as big for the upcoming inauguration though.

"The reality is it's not as historic this time around," Ferguson told the Post. "Anticipating 1.8 million might be a bit of a stretch."
