Regardless of whether India's religious tourism is focused on raising awareness on faith or generating more national revenue, the country is providing more funding and projects to boost the particular niche of its tourism industry foreseen to boost local businesses by driving more tourist traffic in different areas of Maharastra, Chandanapuri, Dabhadi, Galane and shrines in West Bengal.

According to According to Times of India, the Indian Government has allocated Rs 5.41 crore ($369,000) to improve religious shrines in Dabhadi, Galane and Chandanapuri along with other sites of interest to boost tourism in the area. Malegaon tehsil representative and State of Cooperation Minister Dadaji Bhuse intends to boost the tourism destination grade of the three sites to at least the rank of "B" destinations before the end of 2017.

Furthering its efforts, the Indian government intends to improve tourism in Guwahati, West Bengal and Odisha. Economic Times India reported that, the train will travel from West Bengal's Gangasagar and journey towards different temples including Kolkata's Kalighat and Birla, Sri Swami Narayan, Puri's Konark and Bhubaneswar's Lingaraj; the rail-wide round-trip travel could cost tourists about Rs 6,161 ($90).

The news website said three rail lines would take charge with the rail development and future operation: the Aastha Circuit Tourist Train, Northeast Frontier Railway and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation.

In Maharastra, the local state government plans to develop its "theme" tourism and boost local business revenue -- which includes religious tourism. The state government intends to improve industries of travel including, beaches, heritage sites, coastal and yachts, gastronomic or culinary, natural, education and even medical -- the latter becoming an increasing favorite among foreign travelers given India's affordable medical care and advanced technologies in the field.

Maharastra's local government would improve infrastructure in the Buddha circuit comprised of the temples Jyotirlingas, Ashtavinayaks, Shirdi, Kolhapur, and Pandharpur. The development budget is yet to be stated by the local government.
