2014 Corvette C7 Specs and Release Date Revealed By GM

Chevrolet is set to debut brand new 2014 Corvette C7 in January 2013. The seventh generation of this American sport car will have some new specs that will make it a must have vehicle for 2013.

Chevrolet announced that the new 2014 Corvette will debut on January 13, just in time for the North American International Auto Show. However, it probably won't be available to purchase until July. GM will take orders for the C6 model until December and will stop building the current C6 model in February 2013. They will start producing the new 2014 model in July.

The 2014 Corvette C7 has some pretty sexy specs that any car fan would love. The exterior is restyled, the interior is more upscale, the bodywork is lighter, and the engine and transmission are more efficient.

The first is expected to be complete on June 30, which is 60 years to the day that the first Corvette model was produced in 1953, according to Reuters.

When the C7 debuts in January, it will also be the 60th anniversary of when the first Corvette made its debut. The company has built and sold over 1.5 million since it started.

Interest in the Corvette has dropped a bit in recent years due to competition from foreign cars, and higher vehicle, gas and insurance prices. GM hopes that this new model will help boost sales, especially among young, affluent customers who usually go for the foreign cars. 

The C7 model is completely different from past models, with the exception of "the cabin air filter and the rear latch for the removable roof panel," chief engineer Tadge Juechter told Reuters.

Even the Corvette logo, which has a crossed black and white checkered and a red Chevrolet flag, has undergone a makeover.

According to Reuters, the new car will also have "a smaller, lighter aluminum V8 engine displacing around 5.5 liters, advanced features such as direction injection, cylinder cutoff and variable valve timing, and a new seven-speed manual transmission for improved fuel economy."

The official price hasn't been announced yet, but it is expected to cost between $55,000 for the base model to about $120,000 for the advanced Corvette ZR1.
