The release of the season 2 of "Shadowhunters" has been finally announced to be released early in 2017. Fans of the show have been waiting since the first season ended in April of 2016, now fans will finally be able to find out what will happen to Clary, Jace, Magnus, Alec, Izzy and Luke.

"Shadowhunters" received quite a success when the series came out in January of 2016, loosely based on The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare and made for television by Ed Decter, it is the second adaptation of the series of novels after the 2013 film, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. You can catch up on season one by reading a recap of Season 1's finale by EW.

The movie did not quite get a positive reception with film critics and it was so bad that its proposed sequels which was planned to come out in 2014 never happened. Instead, it was decided that it was better off as a television series as the book that it was based on had a lot of plot lines to cover and that it would be better off as a television series and they were right.

The first season of "Shadowhunters" was well received by viewers and quickly gained fans after only a few episodes aired and by March 2015, before the first series even ended, a second season was already ordered for it. If you're a fan of supernatural shows that involve vampires, werewolves, witches and more then you still have some time to catch up on "Shadowhunters" before the second season premiers.

So, what can fans expect from the second season? We finally find out what happened to Jace. New characters will be introduced, like Sebastian Morgenstern, Valentine Morgenstern's other son. Fans of The Vampire Diaries should also tune in to this show as Paul Wesley who plays Stefan Salvatore is set to direct an episode according to Access Hollywood.

"Shadowhunters" is set to premier on January 2, 2017.
