Apple's latest, iOS 6, will be released Wednesday September 19. The highly anticipated iOS 6's release date was announced at an Apple event in San Francisco, where they also announced the new iPhone 5 which will be available to purchase Friday September 22.
With millions of Apple fans around the globe waiting for the release time of iOS 6, Apple has been hush hush thus far about when in the day they will release the download.
Before iPhone and iPad users download the operating system, here are some things that are important to remember in preparation:
iOS 6 will be available for download over the air:
This means that you won't have to plug in your iPhone or iPad to download or install the new operating system as long as you currently have iOS 5. With this, only recent changed system elements are upgraded, leaving the rest, making it easier to upgrade.
Make sure to back up your information and data before downloading. This is always a good idea just in case. You can do this either by syncing a cable to your computer or wirelessly with iCloud.
Download iTunes 10.7:
iOS 6 is only compatible with iTunes 10.7. Apple released the new iTunes last week to try and make server and download issues less. So, if you haven't downloaded iTunes 10.7 do it before the iOS 6 launch.
Be fully charged:
Make sure your device is fully charged and have a power source ready just in case. Download times can be a while sometimes and there's nothing more frustrating than your phone dying in the middle of it.
Be prepared for server delays and errors:
With the sheer number of people downloading at the same time, delays or errors may happen. If you do encounter any errors or delays, it is best to wait it out until the error clears instead of trying to download multiple times.
Most likely the software will be available around 1 PM EST/10 AM PST. This is the time that Apple released the update last year with the iOS 5 and the year before that with IOS 4.
