Earlier in September, Niantic first revealed that a "Pokemon Go" app for Apple watch will be released by the "end of the year." As December 31st is fast approaching, "Pokemon Go" fans are starting to doubt if Niantic will really ship things in 2016 after all. Given the wondering and doubt, rumors also circulate out of control.

According to Tech Crunch, an email began spreading via reddit early this week that was allegedly sent by a Niantic customer service agent. It claimed the "port for the Apple Watch has been shelved" and that development had been stopped. The promise that the famous game was coming to Apple Watch was part of an Apple keynote in September, so it came as a shock to a lot of fans that the two companies would backtrack.

As it turns out, they haven't. Niantic cleared out the rumor and said that it was "not real," and that "development on 'Pokemon GO' continues." Fortune adds that Niantic appears to be pushing the goal time a bit. The initial announcement had the Watch version of the megahit game arriving by the end of the year, but Niantic is now stating they will "have more news on the product soon."

The delay can probably be due to the slight fading of interest in "Pokemon GO." It has been reported that the game experienced a steep dropoff after its debut. Despite of this, "Pokemon GO" is still on the lists of the top ten grossing apps for iOS. Furthermore, many assume that "Pokemon GO" would be a perfect fit for the Apple Watch, since the game is meant to be played, well, on-the-go. The Watch version was originally planned to include fitness tracking features, and would let players to control most aspects of the game without taking their phones out.
