Maui, Hawaii is the second most popular national destination after Las Vegas, according to a Travel Leaders Group Fall Travel Trends Survey.
The idyllic island of Maui is a close second to the partying, gambling ways of Sin City. Orlando, home to Walt Disney World was bumped to third.
In last year's survey, Maui was the top recommended domestic destination by Travel leaders and now consumers are believing it too according to 2012 data for travel between September 1 and the end of the year.
The survey was conducted from July 30-August 23 2012 and includes responses from 871 travel industry representatives including agency owners and managers.
Top ten national spots included the likes of the city that never sleeps, New York, New York at number four and picturesque San Francisco at six.
Internationally cruises are the most popular destination, with Caribbean cruising and Cancun, Mexico being the most popular. Mediterranean cruising came in at number 3 and European destinations such as Rome, London and Paris came in at top ten.
Based on our survey data, it is abundantly clear that savvy travelers - heeding the advice of our travel professionals - are taking advantage of 'shoulder season' in Europe. In fact, one of the hottest trends in cruising, as well as international travel, is European river cruising because the smaller, more intimate ships are able to make stops in the heart of charming European cities and towns. The value in heading to Europe in the fall is reflected in our survey rankings," stated Travel Leaders Group CEO Barry Liben to Global Travel Industry News.
He added, "What is most encouraging from an industry perspective is that 8 out of every 10 agents polled indicate their business is on par or better than last year at this time. That says that our clients have the peace-of-mind to go explore - both close to home and internationally - despite the uncertainty in economic markets domestically and in Europe. Because we help them protect their investment - in addition to personally tailoring each vacation experience - our clients are free to enjoy the whole experience, from planning straight through to when they return home."
