Just recently, the nominees for the 25 categories for The 74th Golden Globe Awards have been declared. Some are surprising and some are predictive to the industry. Founded in 1943, The Golden Globe Awards began as an organization of foreign journalists and the actual award arose in 1946 with the presentation of the figurine as a symbol. It started with just five categories and now the institution is acknowledging masterworks in 25 categories.

In the ceremony held last December 12, La La Land dominated the nominations in 7 categories, namely, for Best Director, Best Motion Picture for Musical or Comedy, Best Actor in a Motion Picture for Musical or Comedy, Best Actress in a Motion Picture for Musical or Comedy, Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Original Song.

La La Land is a film in the genres of romance, comedy, drama and musical. It stars famous actors Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone and is directed by Damien Chazelle. Its storyline tells of a pianist and an aspiring actress who met and formed a budding romantic relationship. The plot moves to show their challenges in achieving their goals and the film ends in a positive note. With the incorporation of music into the scenes makes the movie heart-warming. The elements of romance, comedy and music seemed to have captured the hearts of audiences.

With the nominations bagged by La La Land, many are happily speculating and anticipating that it will mark the comeback of musicals in the film industry. In an interview, Damien Chazelle said that
