December is always a special time for "Clash of Clans" players. The game developer, Supercell, never fails to release huge updates annually before year-end, and fans can't wait to see what this year's Christmas update will be.

Although Supercell is still mum about the update and when it will be released, players speculate that it would come with a free gem trial period, which will allow "Clash of Clans" players to get resources without spending a single dime. All Clash reported that the update will arrive a week before Christmas, but no further details have been revealed.

One thing is for sure - the update will still have a winter theme. As reported on Christian Times, when Supercell was asked about the update on Twitter, the developer said: "There will be a Winter theme this year again ... but it's not ready yet. We'll keep you guys posted closer to the date!"

Fans can only make guesses about what the rest of the update will be. There were even some leaked reports saying that the December update, aside from few fixes, will also have additional troops, free gems for a short period of time, and new characters.

"Clash of Clans" is an addictive multi-player game released in 2012 for iOS, and in 2013 for Android. Ever since the game came out, it has received generally positive reviews, scoring 9/10 by Pocket Gamer and 4.5/5 stars from Gamezebo. The game has contributed $930 million in income to Supercell for 2015. Another game by the same developer, "Clash Royale", was the most downloaded game in the US for the first quarter of this year.

Meanwhile, an animated series based on "Clash of Clans" is set to premiere on television on Friday, reported GameNGuide. "Clash-A-Rama" is an original comedy animation based on the characters of the game, with a creative team including three of the "The Simpsons" writers and producers.
