It was history in the making when Emirates has commenced the world's shortest flight on an Airbus 380, the world's largest passenger plane, flying from Dubai to Doha with a total distance of 375 kilometers in 80 minutes.

The flight took off from Dubai on Dec. 1 and arrived at the Hamad International Airport to a water cannon salute. Boarding on the plane were Adil al-Ghaith, Emirates' senior vice president Commercial Operations, Gulf Middle East and Iran, members of the UAE business community and media guests.

Visitors were taken to for a tour to the double-decker A380 and gotten up close with Emirates most popular amenities like the First Class Private Suites, Shower Spas and Onboard lounge for First Class and Business Class passengers, which offers a wide range of drinks and treats.

The aircraft operates on a three-class configuration, with 76 flat-bed seats in its business class cabin, 14 first class private suites on the upper deck, and 429 economy class seats. All passengers can enjoy more than 2,500 on-demand channels to choose from onboard.

"Making it the most served destination in the airline's network, Emirates has steadily grown its presence in Doha and now operates with nine daily flights," al-Ghaith announced to the press during the opening ceremony. "Demand between Dubai and Doha is stronger and in the last five years Emirates has carried over 3.7mn passengers between the two cities."

Emirates has nine daily flights to Dubai and Doha, signifying the Qatari capital as the most served destination in the Emirates network.

"The double-decker A380 is the world's largest passenger aircraft in service, and has been tremendously popular with air travellers across the globe with its spacious cabins and quiet journeys," al-Gaith continued.

Emirates is the largest operator of Airbus A380 and currently has 86 of the aircraft in service and 56 are to join the fleet shortly. At present, the aircraft serves in 45 sectors. See full press release here.
