News on the sequel to Naughty Dog's award-winning post-apocalyptic survival horror game "The Last of Us" could be announced much sooner than expected. "The Last of Us" was released in 2013 receiving universal acclaim, and fans have since been anticipating the announcement of a sequel.

Many believe that the announcement will come at next year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which takes place in June. However, a gaming industry insider going by the name Shinobi 602 claims that developer Naughty Dog could make the announcement much sooner than that.

In a post on Neogaf, Shinobi 602 said that the "The Last of Us 2" has been confirmed and that the announcement will be made much sooner than most people think, which led to plenty of speculation that it could take place at the upcoming PlayStation Experience event which takes place on December 3.

However, if the announcement isn't made during the PlayStation Experience event, then the developers might do it during the Game Awards, which is scheduled to take place sometime near the end of the year. It is also worth pointing out that the announcement for the first "The Last of Us" title was made during the Game Awards back in December of 2011, so it is somewhat safe to assume that Naughty Dog might be looking to announce its sequel in this year's event.

Naughty Dog managed to tease the thought of a second Last of Us game by way of an Easter egg in the epilogue of "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End". The said Easter egg is a poster that can be found in the bedroom of Nathan Drake's daughter Cassie.

The poster showed the photo of a pregnant woman wearing a gas mask while holding a pistol in her hand and had the title "The Last of Us: American Daughters". Fans believe the pregnant woman on the poster to be Ellie - one of the main protagonists of the original "The Last of Us" game.

Naughty Dog's concept artist Richard Lyons commented on the poster saying that it was made as an "in-game asset for "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End". He also added that he could not elaborate on the poster's narrative.

At this point, it is hard to say what the sequel will be about since Naughty Dog has been pretty silent about the whole project. However, Naughty Dog has done something similar before the release of the original game in "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" ,where a newspaper can be seen during the opening scenes of the game talking about how scientists were baffled in trying to understand a new strain of fungus.

This, of course, ended up as their way of hinting at their next project which would later turn out to be "The Last of Us", so fans understandably have a pretty good reason to get hyped. There was also that incident when the game developer accidentally leaked some information about a potential "The Last of Us" sequel during one of their live streams which were reported by IGN last year. Listen to the video and know that Ellie is 5-years older in "The Last of Us 2" and the confirmed release date from and informant!
