Chris Brown still has a place in Rihanna's heart apparently. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey that will air Sunday on her network OWN, the songstress cried while opening up about her ex boyfriend who beat her the night before the Grammy's in 2009.

"I lost my best friend," she said to Oprah Winfrey. "Everything I knew switched in a night, and I couldn't control that."

On Oprah's show, the Next Chapter the 24 year old opened up about the domestic violence that led to her breakup with Brown, which has rarely been seen before to the public.

Allegedly, Brown beat her in the face during a heated argument the night before the 2009 Grammys. He pled guilty and was sentenced to probation and community service.

Rihanna said in the interview, "It became a circus and I felt protective. I felt like the only person they hate right now, is him. It was a weird, confusing space to be in. As angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help ... and who's going to help him?"

Rihanna, cried about what the world would think of Brown after the violence and felt protective over him. She claimed to be worried that people would just think of him as a Monster, she told Oprah.

"Nobody's going to say he needs help. Everybody's going to say he's a monster without looking at the source . . . and I was more concerned about him," she said.

Since their breakup Rihanna and Brown have collaborated on two songs.

Rihanna's interview will air on Sunday August 19 at 9 p.m. on OWN.
