The NES Classic Edition has been sold-out literally everywhere. Fans of the old console can only find the new mini version for sale now through third parties at a significant markup. Two executives from Microsoft gaming subsidiaries posted on Twitter their reactions to the unavailability of the remake of the Nintendo Entertainment System.

The NES Classic Edition was launched on Nov. 18 and the mini-console quickly sold out at most retailers as soon as it was available to purchase. According to Forbes, gaming website GameSpot, and tabloid newspaper Daily Star, some executives from the gaming divisions of Microsoft seem to be ardent Nintendo fans after they posted on Twitter their mock complaints about the difficulty in their attempts to pick up one of the small consoles.

Microsoft Studios publishing GM Shannon Loftis and head of Halo developer 343 Industries Dan Ayoub, expressed their tounge-in-cheek outrage over their inability to buy the mini Nintendo Entertainment System as soon as it came out. Loftis wrote on Twitter, "Irrationally angry at not being able to get the NES Classic. Come on, Nintendo. Why would you short-bake these??" while Ayoub responded, "Right!??? I was refreshing Amazon like a crazy person." Nintendo did send a NES Classic to Xbox boss Phil Spencer days before the launch of the system.

Though half-serious, the Xbox executives have a valid complaint. Ahead of the lucrative holiday shopping season, it seems shortsighted of Nintendo not to gauge demand and to respond accordingly by adjusting the available supply of the NES Classic to ensure that the video game company does not lose out on any potential sales. Some gaming industry watchers have accused Nintendo of intentionally causing the shortages to increase perceived demand for the console.

To assure nostalgic fans of the mini NES, Nintendo has posted on Twitter that it promised that more stock is going to be delivered to retailers soon. Nintendo stated that, "The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system is a hot item, and we are working hard to keep up with consumer demand. There will be a steady flow of additional systems through the holiday shopping season and into the new year. Please contact your local retailers to check availability. A selection of participating retailers can be found @ https://Nintendo.com/nes-classic."
