Two major retail companies from different parts of the globe, may have given away the secret of the base price of the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch. A Canadian Toys R Us website inadvertently revealed the price of Nintendo's hybrid living room/portable console while UK retailer GAME was reported to have already set the price of the Switch.

Although some information has been revealed about the Nintendo Switch, by and large, there are many questions still left unanswered about Nintendo's forthcoming video game console. The price of the hardware is one of the most important pieces of information that has not yet been divulged. The price is crucial since it will allow the public to find out if Nintendo has a bright outlook ahead of it. The price point can determine whether the company can sell plenty of consoles and also if it can turn a profit from their sales.

What was known about the price of the Switch was that Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has stated that the company will not sell the hybrid console at a loss and that the Nintendo Switch will be priced similarly to past Nintendo systems. Further information regarding the pricing of the console has now come out. According to Forbes, gaming website IGN, and tabloid newspaper Daily Star, Toys R Us might have accidentally revealed the retail price of the Switch through a listing on the website of the company's Canadian division.

The listing, which was reported by WCCFTech and has since been removed, advertised the price of the Nintendo system at 329.99 Canadian dollars which is about $250. The price indicated by Toys R Us is in line with a previous report from trusted gaming industry insider Laura Dale. Dale published a report on the blog Let's Play Video Games that two separate sources have revealed that the UK retail chain GAME will be selling the basic model of the Nintendo Switch for £199.99 which is also around $250. A slightly more expensive premium edition will also be sold with more internal storage and a bundled game for £249.99.

The rumored price of the Nintendo Switch is attractive to gamers since it is lower than that of the Xbox One and the Playstation 4 while staying at the same price point as the Nintendo Wii which sold initially for $249.99. This makes the Switch more affordable than the launch price of $299.99 for the Wii U which sold for a loss at that price point. Since Nintendo has said that it will not sell the system at a loss, this would also mean that the Switch is significantly cheaper to manufacture than the Wii U.
