Gameplay- "Injustice 2" has retained similar gameplay from its previous game including character traits, clashes, stage transitions and super moves. The super meter also returns, which allows players to execute their special and super moves when unlocked. However, the main thing that "Injustice 2" sets apart from its previous installment is the gear system. IGN.com stated that the loot-dropping system offers characters to have its own specific costume pieces with status effects. Just like RPGs, the gear system rewards players after each match allowing to customize characters such as strengthening their abilities or unlocking moves, according to ign.

Plot- "Injustice 2" takes place several years after the defeat of High Councilor Superman. Batman and his insurgents are working to put society back together while defending against Superman's regime. Likewise, a new alien threat has arrive putting Earth at risk. Battles will take place in the iconic locations of the "DC Universe": Atlantis - the mythical sunken city; Gotham City - home to Batman and his allies; and Metropolis - Where Superman's base of operations can be found.
