An 8,000-square-foot penthouse is up for sale for $100 million near Central Park in Manhattan.

Raphael De Niro, son of famous actor Robert De Niro, is one of the agents selling the six-bedroom, nine-bathroom home. The penthouse sits atop the City Spire building, overlooking Central Park. The penthouse has 135 windows and each floor is encircled by terraces. The windows look out to the entire island of Manhattan.

"If someone paid $100 million for this apartment it would be record-breaking," Ashley Murphy, director of public relations at Prudential Douglas Elliman, which listed the apartment on Friday, told Reuters.

The present highest sale price for a Manhattan apartment is about $90 million. An unidentified buyer paid the enormous amount in May for a penthouse apartment in a luxury residential building south of Central Park. It's a common trend these days for wealthy foreign buyers to take over luxurious penthouses in the city.

What's amazing is that penthouse owner Steven Klar, New York real estate developer, bought the apartment in 1993 for just $4.5 million and spent the same amount on the entire renovation, as reported by The New York Times.

De Niro and Klar were not available for comment.

This pricey transaction would join a string of wildly expensive apartment sales in the Central Park area early this year.

Forbes has come up with a detailed list of people involved in buying and selling expensive homes in that locality. The names include billionaires like Denise Rich, Steve Wynn, Howard Mark and many more.
